On Site with Jamie: A Day in the Life of Stony Creek’s Founder
Ever wondered what a typical day looks like for Stony Creek’s Founder and Director, Jamie? It’s usually fast-paced, balancing organisation and coordination with hands-on work on site. Behind every project is a team of builders who work alongside Jamie, dedicated to achieving the same goal, a beautifully delivered home. From the first light of morning, to the final check in with the team, you can be sure the Stony Creek team is hard at work at one of their building projects on the Northern Beaches or North Shore.
Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes with Jamie at his project in Seaforth.

6:50am – Site arrival and team briefing
Most mornings, you’ll find Jamie on site before the sun’s fully up, coffee in hand and plans in motion. Shortly after, the Stony Creek team arrives, ready to get to work. Jamie conducts a team briefing where daily goals, key tasks and client updates are discussed.
The team starts setting up their tools for the day, deliveries are checked and the work areas are prepared. This is usually the part of the day where any overnight weather impacts are addressed. Thankfully, the weather has been kind and the day begins with ease.

7:00am – Construction work begins
The hands-on building begins. This includes framing, formwork, concreting, detailed carpentry or fit-out work depending on the project stage. Today, the team is working on framing and formwork.
As other trades arrive on-site, Jamie meets with them to discuss their rough-ins for the day.
11:00am – Morning break
After a busy morning of work, the entire team takes a quick break for coffee and a bite to eat. The sun is shining so everyone soaks in the morning sun before it starts to get too hot for the day. Jamie’s dogs Cookie and Luna are on site today and enjoy some cuddles! They’re favourites on site and love all of the attention they get.
11:30am – Back on the tools
It’s time to get back on the tools. The team continues to work on key structural fitouts and finish their tasks from earlier in the morning. With any building site, issues pop up that need troubleshooting, whether that be a material delay, a design that needs clarification or another on-site challenge. Today, Jamie’s jumping on a quick call to clarify a design detail with another trade.
Identifying small issues early saves time and resources down the track. Jamie’s regular checks mean potential problems are resolved before they become bigger challenges, keeping projects on schedule and within budget.

1:00pm – Afternoon progress and final checks
In the early afternoon, Jamie takes a walk around the site to ensure the daily goals are going to be met. He reviews the progress of each of the team, assists where he is needed and checks on quality.
Jamie knows that every stage of construction impacts the next. By closely monitoring workmanship and materials through the day, he ensures that each element meets Stony Creek’s high standards and supports the longevity of the home.
Shortly after 1pm the client pops in to review the progress of the build and choose materials. These site visits are an important part of the process, giving clients the chance to see their home taking shape and make confident, informed decisions about finishes and details. Jamie takes the time to walk them through the site, answer questions and ensure every choice aligns with their vision for the final result.

2:45pm – Site clean-up and tool pack-down
Just before the day wraps up, the team cleans and organises the site, ensuring everything's left safe and secure for the next day. Jamie likes to keep the site orderly to prevent accidents and help the team work efficiently. This also allows them to hit the ground running each morning.
3:10pm – End of day review
The team gathers for a final check-in with Jamie and the project manager to review the day’s achievements. Discussions often cover upcoming stages, delivery schedules and coordination with other trades. This part of the day is important as it sets the tone for a smooth and productive day tomorrow.
With multiple sites to juggle, Jamie’s days are full. When he’s not on site, he’s meeting potential clients, reviewing plans and preparing quotes to get each project off to the best start. By the end of the day, Jamie and his team leave the site knowing they’re one step closer to completing the client’s dream home, taking pride in the work they’ve done and enjoying each other’s company while building the home from the ground up.
